READINESS LEVELS

Understand what your plant is ready for.

Not every rooted plant is equally prepared for change. Readiness Levels were created to help you understand a plant's biological stage—not just whether it has roots. By identifying how established a plant is, how much transition it can tolerate, and what kind of support it may need, this framework helps you make informed decisions with greater confidence.

Every plant has a starting point.

Readiness Levels provide a clear framework for understanding where a plant is in its development. Rather than relying on broad terms like well-rooted or established, each level offers practical context to help set realistic expectations before your plant arrives.

RL0
STABILIZE
Pre-Transition
Roots are forming but not yet regulating water. Plants at this stage have an extremely low tolerance for environmental change and require stability before transition.
RL1
SUPPORT
Early Transition
Roots are functional but not yet stable. Plants can uptake water, but their responses remain inconsistent and benefit from steady, intentional support.
RL2
MONITOR
Stabilized (Developing)
Roots regulate water reliably. Watering and drying produce repeatable responses, and growth remains steady under consistent care.
RL3
MAINTAIN
Household Stable
Plants maintain their condition even with minor care inconsistency. Delayed watering does not cause immediate stress, and they remain stable under normal household conditions.

There’s no “best” Readiness
Level—only the right fit.

Readiness Levels are designed to provide context—not guarantees. They aren’t intended to measure a plant’s quality or assign value, but to help you understand its current stage of development and choose the experience that’s right for you. Whether you enjoy the challenge of early establishment or prefer a more established plant, the goal is the same: making informed decisions with clear expectations from the very beginning.
